Overview

 

Reporting to the Operations Manager, The Manufacturing Engineer plays a critical role in bridging Engineering and Operations to ensure efficient, high-quality machining and manufacturing processes. This position leads CNC programming projects, drives process optimization, and manages digital manufacturing systems to support production excellence and continuous improvement. The role also supports quoting, tooling, and documentation efforts, and contributes to strategic initiatives in automation, lean manufacturing, and workforce development.

 

This is a salaried position and is subject to the policies that are given in the current version of Dimatec Human Resources Manual Document HR6. This position is included in the company’s Engineering Group as defined in Dimatec Human Resources Manual Document HR13.

 

Responsibilities

 

CNC Programming & CAM Environment

 

  • Program CNC machines (2-9 axis) using CAM software and G codes.
  • Maintain a fully configured CAM environment with:
    • Customized tool libraries
    • Machining templates
    • Verified machine simulations for all CNC equipment (2–9 axis)
  • Embed standardized machining processes in CAM software to ensure consistent quality and efficiency.
  • Enhance internal capabilities to program complex multi-axis parts with high accuracy and efficiency.

 

Manufacturing Process Optimization

 

  • Research, engineer, and optimize manufacturing processes, including documentation and internal change requests.
  • Collaborate with machinists to establish cycle times and improve cost/machinability feedback loops.
  • Develop and document new manufacturing processes and best practices in lean CNC programming and tool management.
  • Stay current with industry technologies to advance facility capabilities and support existing and future automations.

 

Engineering & Operations Liaison

 

  • Act as a liaison between Engineering and Operations to resolve technical ambiguities and align priorities.
  • Manage the company’s distributed numerical control (DNC) network.
  • Support the Purchasing Agent or Tooling Supervisor with specifications for tooling procurement.

 

Quality, Compliance & Documentation

 

  • Review and approve incoming material test reports (MTRs) during receiving inspections.
  • Ensure all documents and records are controlled per company policies.
  • Implement process/documentation changes based on customer requirements, corrective/preventive actions, and ECRs.
  • Comply with all customer and statutory requirements, with attention to risk, value, and safety.

 

Quoting & Sales Support

 

  • Prepare preliminary manufacturing processes for quoting machined parts and metal-bond matrix-body tools.
  • Improve quoting tools and workflows for faster, more accurate cost/time estimates.
  • Support Sales and Marketing under the direction of the Operations Manager.

 

Product Development & Engineering Projects

 

  • Coordinate testing and validation of new products and implement design changes for performance.
  • Contribute to engineering projects.
  • Build a foundation of digital manufacturing knowledge to support workforce training and process improvements.

 

Continuous Improvement & Lean Initiatives

 

  • Engage in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives (5S, value stream mapping, setup reduction).
  • Participate in MOM system tracking for efficiency, variance, and quality.
  • Expand machine-level capacity tracking to identify underutilized assets.

 

Other Duties

Qualifications

 

  • Post-secondary education in a technical field related to mechanical engineering.
  • Strong working knowledge of setting up and operating CNC machines.
  • Experience in creating, reading, interpreting and modifying CNC programs.
  • Familiarity with CNC machine tools.
  • Exceptional blueprint reading and comprehension skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Word®, Excel® and Outlook®. The ability to use UNIPOINT® and SYSPRO® would be considered an asset.
  • The ability to interpret and translate customer specifications and requirements into working documents for use by the company’s production personnel. These documents include drawings, work instructions, bills of material and labour routings.
  • The ability to effectively document processes and specifications for use by the company’s production personnel.
  • Familiarity with general machine shop practices.
  • Knowledge of measuring devices that are typically used in a machine shop environment and their applications.
  • Familiarity with record keeping and document control practices.
  • The ability to navigate and comprehend the company’s Quality Assurance Manual (QAM) and its associated documents including specification documents issued by customers.

Overview

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Machinist is primarily responsible for day-to-day production activities, set-up and independent operation of machine shop machines.

 

This is an hourly position and is subject to the policies that are given in the current version of Dimatec Human Resources Manual Document HR8.

 

Responsibilities (representative duties)

  • Set-up and operate manual and/or CNC machines.
  • Review work orders and interpret blueprints, select appropriate tooling for the work to be done.
  • Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to adjust speeds, feeds and tool paths on CNC machine tools where necessary.
  • Verify the accuracy of a co-workers’ set-up(s) from previous shift if machine is already set-up.
  • Report deviations from specifications and tolerances to Quality Assurance for disposition.
  • Maintain work area as per continuous improvement guidelines, monitor equipment as per maintenance sheets, operator checklists, and equipment specifications.
  • Use logbooks daily.

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience setting up and operating manual and/or CNC machines.
  • Holds certificate (or ability to be trained) in overhead crane operation.

  • Intermediate blueprint reading and drawing / GD&T comprehension skills.

Overview

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Products Finishing, Level 1, is primarily responsible for cleaning graphite molds, as well as finishing metal-bond drilling and grinding tools in preparation for delivery to customers.

 

This is an hourly position and is subject to the policies that are given in the current version of Dimatec Human Resources Manual Document HR8.

 

Responsibilities (representative duties)

  • Clean graphite molds and prepare them for re-use in production.
  • Gauge and size semi-finished drill bits using belt sanders and other pneumatic hand tools.
  • Remove excess metal and graphite from semi-finished metal-bond drilling and grinding tools using water-jet equipment.
  • Spray painting finished drilling and grinding tools.
  • Maintain product serial number traceability throughout the finishing process.
  • Maintain work area as per continuous improvement guidelines.
  • Use logbooks.
  • Report all necessary work related information on work order packages.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma.
  • 0 – 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Physical ability to lift/push loads of up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis, perform repetitive tasks, and/or stand for prolonged periods of time.

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the General Labourer, Level 1, is primarily responsible for machine shop activities, special process applications, and set-up/operation of automatic and manual equipment.

 

This is an hourly position and is subject to the policies that are given in the current version of Dimatec Human Resources Manual Document HR8.

 

Responsibilities (representative duties)

 

  • Set-up and operate saws, lathe, drill press systems, overhead crane, and forklift.
  • Operate zinc phosphate dip tank as per process specification.
  • Stamp, clean, and zinc phosphate parts as per work instructions.
  • Operate ECO Blast Shot Peen.
  • Cut, drill, and deburr parts as per work instructions.
  • Sharpen drill bits as required.
  • Hard strip and braze diamond products.
  • Set-up and operate product identification equipment (pin stamping and laser engraving).
  • Provide hands-on training/mentoring to other employees.
  • Maintain work area as per continuous improvement guidelines and monitor equipment as per maintenance sheets and operator checklists.
  • Use logbooks daily.
  • Report all necessary work-related information on work order packages as per quality management system requirements.
  • Operate grinding machine.

Qualifications

 

  • High school diploma with technical/academic training or equivalent.
  • 1 – 5+ years’ experience with machinery, including band saw, drill press, and other conventional machine shop equipment or willing to learn them.
  • Having basic knowledge or experience in welding is considered an asset.
  • Blueprint reading and comprehension.
  • Valid driver’s license required. Prior forklift experience preferred or willing to obtain a forklift certificate.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes or willing to obtain certification.
  • Physical ability to lift/push loads of up to 50 lbs. regularly, perform repetitive tasks, and/or stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity, attention to detail, and hand-eye coordination.

  • Ability to read and understand written English instructions given on various media (electronic forms, CNC programs, work instructions, safe work procedures, log books, etc).
  • Successful completion of a basic blueprint reading and comprehension course.
  • Basic welding experience an asset.
  • Holds certificate (or ability to be trained) in overhead crane operation.
