This
economical diamond set reaming shell is available for
use on all conventional and wireline core barrel assemblies
with drill hole sizes of up to 8 inches (203 mm) in
diameter. The Dimatec D-Series reaming shell is manufactured
with a full matrix body gauge ring that is cast onto
the steel tool body for maximum bond strength and tool
integrity. In addition, the D-Series reaming shell gauge
ring features spiral waterway canals that both effectively
clear the bit cuttings and provide full 360° hole
contact with the matrix body gauge ring.
The setting on the gauge ring is a combination
of mechanically rounded P3
Grade natural drill diamond in the size range of
20 to 35 stones per carat and seismic grade tungsten-carbide
wear pads that are cast into a tough, abrasion resistant
matrix body.
The Dimatec D-Series reaming shell is
recommended for use in light to medium duty applications
where the formation conditions are relatively consolidated
and non-abrasive. Although hard-metal
strips that are used to armor coat the steel tool
body are normally not provided on D-Series reaming shells,
this option is available at an additional cost.
Optional
setting is also available where the natural mined
P3 grade diamond is replaced with synthetic
materials and is intended for use on drilling projects
where potential contamination by natural diamond crystals
is objectionable.
This
Heavy Duty type represents Dimatecs
premium line of reaming shells. They are intended for
use primarily on wireline core barrel assemblies with
drill hole sizes of up to 6 inches (152 mm) in diameter.
The Dimatec Heavy Duty reaming
shell is manufactured with a full matrix body gauge
ring that is cast onto the steel tool body for maximum
bond strength and tool integrity. The reaming shell
gauge ring features include:
- Spiral waterway
canals that are wider than those on the D-Series
type and as such reduce the potential for blockage
by pebbles or other debris.
- A tapered leading
edge for ease of movement down the drill hole.
- Placement directly
adjacent to the male thread connection to reduce the
possibility of abrasive wash-out between the shoulder
of the drill bit body and the gauge ring of the reaming
shell.
The setting on the gauge ring of the Heavy
Duty reaming shell is substantially more dense
than that of the D-Series type and is designed
to provide the longest possible life. The gauge ring
setting materials are a combination of mechanically
rounded P3 Grade natural drill diamond,
mesh-size synthetic diamond and seismic grade tungsten-carbide
wear pads that are cast into a tough, abrasion resistant
matrix body.
The Dimatec Heavy Duty reaming
shell is recommended for use in the most difficult applications
where the formation conditions are highly unconsolidated
and abrasive. As a standard feature, all Dimatec Heavy
Duty reaming shells are supplied with hard-metal
strips on the exposed outside diameter of the steel
tool body. These hard-metal strips are composed of micron
sized tungsten-carbide particles that are suspended
in a metal alloy and are used to armor coat the steel
tool body in order to prevent premature wear.
Optional setting is also available where
the natural mined P3 grade diamond is replaced
with synthetic materials and is intended for use on
drilling projects where potential contamination by natural
diamond crystals is objectionable.
